WORK AT MOONSCAPE FARM

Hello community members! We are looking for someone who is passionate about food accessibility and community resilience to join our farm team. Do you have a couple years of experience growing food and a basic knowledge of organic, non-invasive growing techniques? Do you have a passion for social justice? Do you have leadership experience (or interest in developing some)? Join Moonscape Farm as our new Assistant Lead Grower!

ASSISTANT LEAD GROWER

We grow around half an acre of vegetables, herbs and flowers for a financially-accessible CSA and other food access initiatives.  We manage a Community Garden and collaborate with other nonprofits to make garden space and farm shares available to our refugee neighbors. We work hard, have lots of fun, and take pride in growing beautiful food.

We use low-till organic agricultural methods.  This means managing weeds and pests by hand and lots of emphasis on compost, mulch, and soil health. You will be participating in all aspects of food production and guiding the field crop team in the absence of the lead grower. 

Work is between 30-40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, mid-April-November. We pay $20-27/hr depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Planting & Transplanting

  • Weeding and pest control 

  • Harvesting 

  • Assisting Lead Grower with planning work days, ordering/ picking up growing supplies, and leading field crew and volunteers 

  • Leading fieldwork when the Lead Grower is out

Helpful Attributes

  • Willingness to work hard in most weather conditions (within reason)

  • Enthusiasm, curiosity, flexibility and a sense of humor 

  • Experience with or interest in leading small groups of people to accomplish shared goals

  • Passion for social justice, sustainable agriculture, and small human-powered solutions to big problems

  • Ability to do a variety of physical tasks involving bending, kneeling/crouching, and lifting/carrying 30 lbs repeatedly without strain. 

  • Experience in farming &/or leadership through the lens of community building. 

  • Plants make you happy
